It’s amazing the things you come across when traveling on America’s highways. Colin was riding shotgun when they came upon a pretty scary situation. This Pontiac being hauled was loaded backward on the trailer. Not the smartest decision as the majority of the payload weight was at the rear of the trailer. More weight at the rear creates a very uneasy ride as the tail has a tendency to “wag-the-dog.” This movement is magnified as speeds increase.
We followed the driver at a safe distance and had a pleasant conversation with him once he got off the interstate. He was concerned about too much tongue-weight which is why he loaded the Pontiac backward on the trailer. In our experience, we feel that too much tongue-weight is almost always better than not enough. As a general rule, remember to keep about 60% of your payload weight forward of the axle center-line.
